Justice Ssekaana Closes Two-Day Training On PET, Encourages A Positive Mindset and Continued Practice with The Tool

Earlier, Justice Musa Ssekaana (Head Civil Division), representing the Chairperson of the Performance and Awards Committee, closed a two-day training for Staff of the Judiciary on the Performance Enhancement Tool (PET).
The training was held at the Supreme Court Conference Hall, Judiciary Headquarters, Kampala.
Participating in the training were more than 40 Staff, including Systems Administrators, Office Supervisors, and other non-judicial staff from pilot courts such as the High Court Divisions of Commercial, Anti-Corruption, Civil, and Land, the Chief Magistrate's Courts of Mengo, Buganda Road, and the Registry of Magistrates Affairs and Data Management.
Justice Ssekaana acknowledged that PET implementation is still in its early stages and encouraged participants to familiarize themselves with the Tool. He advised participants to use free time to practice with the Tool, emphasizing that regular use will help them appreciate its value.
Justice Ssekaana also stressed the importance of staying engaged with the tool and maintaining a positive mindset, noting that any challenges with it will be addressed by the Committee and adjustments made after an evaluation period to ensure that it meets Judiciary's needs.
Ms. Apophia N. Tumwine, Commissioner of Human Resource Management, commended the Performance Management and Awards Committee for their efforts in introducing the PET to the rest of the Judiciary after several years of development and planning.
She appreciated the Judiciary's Senior Management for prioritizing the PET's implementation despite other competing interests.
Ms. Tumwine emphasized the role of PET in upholding the Judiciary's core values of independence, impartiality, accountability, transparency, integrity, and professionalism.
She also acknowledged the Committee's role in refining the tool to ensure it applies to all job designations and appraisal scenarios.
Mr. Joseph Ssinabulya (Principal Information Management Officer), and Mr. Oryema Brian (Computer Programmer Judiciary ICT Department) led hands-on training sessions on the PET. They covered topics such as the Appraisal Cycle, selection of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Core and Non-core Competencies, and the360-degree Appraisal.
They also provided practical guidance on conducting appraisals, calculating overall scores, and generating performance reports and ratings.
Notably present was HW Patricia Amoko, the Private Legal Secretary to the Chief Registrar.
The training was moderated by Ms Flavia Chandiru, Senior Systems administrator.
